Perth Glazier Pros – Broken window insurance claims: what to do first

Perth Glazier Pros is a glazier referral service for broken window glass, glass door repairs, glass replacement, shower screens and shopfront glass across Perth. Photos first, then your insurer, then repairs. What Moneysmart says, in plain English. We have no link with any insurer.

Perth Glazier Pros is a referral service, not a glazier. Requests go to one local glazing business that services your area (how it works).

General information only. This guide summarises the cited sources as at 20 October 2026. It is not glazing, insurance or legal advice. Which glass suits a location is the glazier's call, and your policy wording decides what insurance covers.

Short answer: photograph the damage before touching it, report any crime to police, and talk to your insurer before paying for temporary repairs. Ask about the excess and whether you can use your own glazier. We don't name insurers and we don't arrange or approve claims.

Does home insurance cover a broken window?

It depends on your policy and what caused the break, and your excess applies either way. Read the glass cover in your policy wording, then ask your insurer. Check whether your excess is more than the likely repair cost.

What should I do before I claim?

Take photos and video of the damage before you move anything, including before minimal repairs such as boarding up a door. If the damage was caused by a crime, report it to police. Then contact your insurer as soon as practical.

For a break-in that has already happened, WA Police take reports on 131 444 or online. Keep the report number for your claim.

Can I get the window fixed before the insurer says yes?

Talk to your insurer before you spend money on temporary repairs. Moneysmart says many insurers have preferred repairers and can arrange emergency repairs. If the opening is unsafe tonight, tell the insurer that when you call.

DFES gives similar advice after storms: contact your insurer, and check with them before contracting repairers.

Can I choose my own glazier?

Ask. Moneysmart suggests asking: "Do you have preferred repairers, or can I choose my own?" Some insurers let you use your own repairer, and some offer a cash settlement instead of arranging the repair.

If you use your own glazier, ask for an itemised written quote: glass type, size, labour, board-up and any after-hours fee.

How long does an insurance claim take?

Under the General Insurance Code of Practice, as summarised by Moneysmart, insurers respond to a claim within 10 business days, give updates at least every 20 business days, and make a decision within four months.

How much does the glass cost if I don't claim?

Glazewell, a Perth glazier, publishes $280–$1,400 per window pane supplied and installed. Weigh that against your excess before you decide to claim. After-hours work adds roughly $150–$350 (Glazewell).
