Glass broken tonight in Canning Vale: what should I do?

Keep people and pets away, leave loose shards in the frame and call 000 if anyone is hurt or a crime is in progress. Then send a request and say if the opening isn't secure.

In the newer streets of Canning Vale the late-night problem is usually a shattered slider; in older parts of Gosnells and Thornlie it is more often a window broken in a break-in. If you will claim on insurance, Moneysmart says to talk to your insurer before spending money on temporary repairs.

Warehouse glass and the new Thornlie–Cockburn Line

The same WA Government positioning paper lists Canning Vale among the five established regional industrial centres in Perth's central sub-region, alongside Osborne Park, Ashfield, O'Connor and Kewdale/Welshpool. The Thornlie–Cockburn Line opened on 9 June 2025 as Perth's first east–west rail line, with new stations at Nicholson Road and Ranford Road; METRONET says Ranford Road station serves the Canning Vale industrial area. For a warehouse or factory window, say on the form whether the glass is at ground level or high up. Glazewell says upper-storey work adds 20–40% to labour, and scaffolding $400–$1,200.

Homes and glass in Canning Vale & Gosnells

Because so much of Canning Vale was built from the 1990s on, homes tend to have aluminium windows and sliding doors. Older parts of Gosnells, Thornlie and Cannington have a wider mix. For a broken sliding door, AGWA recommends replacing a non-safety pane with Grade A safety glass. For fogging between the panes of a double-glazed unit, the sealed unit is usually replaced rather than repaired; see glass replacement.

Shops and commercial glass

North of the rail line near Roe Highway, Canning Vale has a large industrial area with warehousing and distribution centres, including the Market City wholesale produce market. Cannington and Gosnells town centres have retail strips. For broken commercial glass, see shopfront glass repair.

Is Canning Vale in the City of Canning or the City of Gosnells?

Both. The part of Canning Vale west of Nicholson Road is in the City of Canning, and the part east of it is in the City of Gosnells. Either way, this page covers it.

My double-glazed window has gone foggy. Is that urgent?

Usually not. Fogging between panes generally means the seal has failed, and the sealed unit is replaced. Glazewell lists double-glazed unit replacement at about $600–$1,400 per pane in Perth, with longer lead times because units are made to measure. Choose "This week" or "Just after pricing" on the form.

How fast will someone come?

We don't set or promise times. We call you back and put you in touch with a local glazier, who tells you when they can attend.
