For home and business glass: windows, doors, shopfronts, shower screens. Not car windscreens.
Short answer: report the break-in, keep the public clear of broken glass, and photograph everything. A glazier usually secures and boards up the opening first, then measures and fits the new glass. Glazewell says non-stock glass is typically fitted within 24–72 hours. We pass your request to one local glazing business.
What should I do tonight if my shopfront is smashed?
Call 000 if the offender is still there or anyone is hurt; otherwise report it on 131 444. Keep staff and the public away from the glass, photograph the damage and CCTV stills, then request a commercial glazier to make it safe.
If you have business insurance, let your insurer know early and ask before paying for temporary work.
How much does shopfront glass replacement cost in Perth?
There is no published Perth shopfront price list we can cite. As a guide, Glazewell lists large fixed picture windows at $450–$1,500 per pane, with roughly $150–$350 added for an after-hours response. Commercial panes are often larger, which adds cost.
The glazing business quotes the real job after measuring; size, glass type and access drive the price.
| Item | Indicative figure | Published by |
|---|---|---|
| After-hours response | roughly $150–$350 on top of the pane cost | Glazewell |
| Emergency call-out fee | $100–$600, plus a higher hourly rate | hipages |
| Glass not in stock | board-up overnight, glass fitted within 24–72 hours | Glazewell |
| Glass type | Per pane, supplied & installed (Glazewell) | Glass only, per m² (hipages) |
|---|---|---|
| Toughened glass | $380–$650 | about $230 per m² |
| Laminated glass | $450–$900 | about $403 per m² |
Why is a shopfront boarded up before it is fixed?
Glazewell says larger panes, laminated glass and double-glazed units often need to be ordered in. Glazewell describes the order as secure the opening, remove the broken glass, measure, board up overnight, then return to install the new pane.
Is laminated glass better for shop security?
Often, yes. Laminated glass holds together in the frame when broken, which Glazewell says helps prevent forced entry, while toughened glass falls out in small pieces once it breaks. AS 1288 also has a clause on external shopfront glazing, so ask the glazier.

Can a cracked shop window wait?
Glazewell says a cracked pane should be replaced, not repaired. Until then, tape the crack, keep people back from it and book the replacement. If the glass is loose or the shop can't be secured, treat it as urgent.
Does business insurance cover broken shop glass?
Business policies differ on glass cover, so check yours. The basics Moneysmart gives for home claims are a sensible guide: photograph the damage, contact your insurer early, and ask whether you can use your own repairer.
