Perth Glazier Pros is a referral service, not a glazier. Requests go to one local glazing business that services your area (how it works).
Short answer: cracked panes are replaced, not repaired. Small chips in laminated glass can sometimes be filled for looks. Foggy double glazing means a new sealed unit. If the frame is sound, replacing just the glass is usually far cheaper than a new window.
Can a cracked window be repaired?
Not reliably. Glazewell, a Perth glazier, says a cracked pane must always be replaced because crack repair "isn't a safe long-term fix" for windows in Perth's heat and UV.
Until it is replaced, tape across the crack and keep people back from it. If the glass is loose, treat it as urgent: see what to do now.
Can chips in glass be repaired?
Sometimes, for looks only. Glazewell says chips smaller than a 20-cent coin in laminated glass can sometimes be resin-filled, but the glass is still compromised, so full replacement is the safer option.
Is it cheaper to replace the glass or the whole window?
The glass, if the frame is sound. hipages gives around $150–$550 for a single float pane and $800–$1,500 upwards for a whole new window. Glazewell says a damaged, warped or rotted frame adds $200–$800 to a glass job.
| Job | Indicative figure | Published by |
|---|---|---|
| Glazier labour | $65–$105 per hour, plus glass | hipages |
| Single pane of standard float glass | around $150–$550 | hipages |
| Window pane, supplied & installed (Perth) | $280–$1,400 per pane | Glazewell |
| Whole window replacement | $800–$1,500 upwards | hipages |
| Custom frameless shower screen (860 × 900 mm) | about $1,500 | hipages |
| Damaged or rotted frame | $200–$800 extra | Glazewell |
My double-glazed window is foggy inside. Can it be fixed?
Condensation between the panes usually means the unit's perimeter seal has failed. Wikipedia notes it can generally only be fixed by replacing the sealed unit. Glazewell lists double-glazed units at $600–$1,400 per pane, with 3–7 working days' lead time.
It is rarely urgent. Choose "This week" or "Just after pricing" on the form.
When does a whole new window make sense?
When the frame is badly damaged or rotted, the window no longer opens or seals, or you want a different style. Whole-window replacement is usually work for window makers and installers, not a glass-only job.
Old timber sashes are a special case: hipages says glaziers often find rotting timber once the glass is out, and the window may need workshop repairs or full replacement.
Should I upgrade the glass while I'm replacing it?
It's a good time to ask. Glazewell says many Perth owners upgrade a broken pane to laminated, Low-E or double-glazed glass. hipages says double glazing and Low-E can save up to 25 percent on energy bills; that is its claim.
| Glass type | Per pane, supplied & installed (Glazewell) | Glass only, per m² (hipages) |
|---|---|---|
| Clear float glass | $280–$450 | $38–$46 per m² |
| Toughened glass | $380–$650 | about $230 per m² |
| Laminated glass | $450–$900 | about $403 per m² |
| Low-E glass | $450–$800 | about $288 per m² |
| Double-glazed unit | $600–$1,400 | about $265 per m² |
